Here are some simple rules!
A quick glance is not enough to choose the right dimension of the carpet you want to buy. However, it is not a complicated process! Some simple rules can help you:
- Measure correctly and verify the dimensions of the space you want to cover.
- Leave a margin of more than 20 cm between the edges of the carpet and the wall or some finish of the space, such as a closet.
- Avoid placing furniture legs under the carpet in entrances and hallways.
- If you think your rug is small for the space, try to place a larger one under it, like a layer. This will enrich the patterns and create interesting color contrasts.
- In a large living room, the legs of sofas and armchairs should step on the carpet. Recommended carpet size: 2 – 2,50 m.
- In a smaller living room, the back of the sofa can rest on the wall and only its front legs should be pressed on the carpet. Recommended carpet size: 1,50 – 2 m.
- In the dining room, all the chairs should press comfortably on the carpet, which needs to protrude from 0,5-1m, on all sides of the table. To calculate the ideal carpet size for your dining room, add 1,50 m to the length and width of your table (or its diameter, if it is round).
- In the bedroom, it is good to rest all the legs of the bed, but also of furniture such as chairs and bedside tables, on the carpet. Generally, the rug should protrude about half a meter on all sides of the bed. Alternatively, you can put the carpet starting right in front of the bedside tables, so that the bed presses on it by about ⅔. A third option is to place a set of smaller bedroom rugs on each side of the bed.
